Henderson 100 grand a week? I just don't get it.

What's all the fuss about him?

I've never seen him boss a game- just run around a lot and not even do anything spectacular or worthy of applause barring the odd goal. Sometimes I don't even hear the commentators mention his name for large portions of a match.

Yet he's probably going to be Liverpool's new captain and soon on £100,000 a week. Is this just the state of the game where a slightly above average player commands that much money and admiration simply because they are English?

I must be missing something... Is he really good enough to play for England, captain Liverpool and earn 100k a week?

Good player who seems to certainly have upped him game this season, although I'm guessing neither I nor you have seen as much of him as those giving him the pay rise ES.

I've watched him for England enough times and I am yet to understand it. He's certainly not at that level yet. Well, not at a level where he excels anyway.

There have been much worse players earning that type of money,

he is good and still only a young lad. Every side needs this type of player, shame we havent really got one.

Trevor- no I haven't, which is why I've asked the question!

I've never really seen him play at a level which suggests he is worth what he's allegedly going to be paid, or even that justifies his place in the England squad. As I said, just wondering if I'm wrong about him. Just seems like a steady Eddie type of player to me.

Not saying he's a bad player, but just not all that great.

At least you get games and a professional attitude from Henderson.

Good point Marston.

Conservatively, I would say that Sterling is at least twice as important to the team as Henderson, so £200k per week should be on the table to him.

If you look at his deal compared to supposedly what Noble is paid, which is 45/50k. henderson is captain (well not fully until gerrard goes) of a club regularly competing in europe and wanting to challenge for the league title. is he a better player than noble? yes. is he an england regular? yes. does he play for a 'bigger' and wealthier club? yes. will he usually play more games than noble due to european competition? yes. will his image rights be worth more to liverpool than noble's to us? yes. all these factors go into making up what a modern footballer is paid.

He's definitely a solid pro, will run through walls for his team and rarely injured, (and I agree about Carroll) but is that 'all' 100k a week gets you these days?

I'd imagine you could halve his value if he wasn't English and young.

I think he's in the same sort of mould as carrick (although not as good) - you only really appreciate him if you see him play week in week out.

he's not gonna get the headlines but you miss him when he's not playing. my scouse mates think he's quality.

Was rubbish at the World Cup less than a year ago

Lots of energy which makes up for lacking in other areas, looking better this season than last few more goals but hardly a souness or a whelan £100k obviously L'pool think so!

I've always felt he's average, but I give him huge credit for his improvement over the past couple of years and a shame more English people with more talent don't have his mentality (Ravel to name one of them).

There isn't a single other major nation who would have him in their squad though, which says it all about England's current midfield woes.
